Off the Main Road
These are a few photos I've been meaning to upload from an "off the main road" detour I took sometime last month. Reading Davio's recent blog of wandering down unknown roads in the rain inspired me to post these. Too bad I won't have a free camera much longer to use.
I think it's important for me to take trips like these, so I don't feel that I'm living life in a rut. I've taken great lengths to avoid this feeling before. One time Dave and I decided to drive to Charleston, South Carolina without taking the Interstate. Our contrarian natures enjoyed taking the less beaten trail at the time, wandering through small southern towns drowning in the early August humidity. The total trip time must have been close to twice what it should have been. I'm not quite so scared of routine now as I was then, but I still get some sort of high just following roads to see where they go.
This was taken on the Meigs County side of the Tennessee River near the Hiwassee Refuge. I really liked the mix of natural beauty with a pinch of creepiness given off by the tree in the photo. The sun was actually quite bright that day, but the tree provided some incredible shade.
Something about silos with kudzo climbing the sides. I was a little perturbed that I couldn't get an angle without the power lines.
Just a gravel road surrounded by green.
