The road is calling my name...the quest begins June 19...I leave on Saturday on a trip that, quite honestly, I never thought would happen. My good friends Matt Snead and David Ritterbush will take off with me for two weeks on a journey of oddities through Chicago, Minneapolis, the South Dakota Badlands, Montana's Big Sky Country, the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Park in Wyoming, the Colorado Rockies, the plains states, Kansas City, St. Louis, Memphis, and eventually Stone Mountain, Ga. on July 4th.
A good bit of our trip is planned around the cultureal oddities of the roadsideamerica.com website. If you've never visited it, you definitely should give it a look. The picture below, complements of roadsideamerica.com, is one of our planned stops and goals for the trip. The world's largest prairie dog, an 8,000-lbs. concrete statue in the middle of Nowheresville, S.D.
Hopefully, given phone lines along the way, the three of us will be journaling our various trip experiences here on the xanga site and uploading pictures from the trip. On a side note, if anyone has relatives or friends in or near Rapid City, S.D or Billings, Montana, we would greatly appreciate that information, especially if they'd let us sleep on their floor for a night. We had no problem camping, but the low in Wyoming was 32 degrees the other day, so we may have to look for some alternatives.
O yonder great Prairie Dog awaits and beckons us to journey...
