No, you couldn't
This a rant, a pet peeve. It's not meant to sound self-righteous...just informative.
I just watched Tiger Woods finish a disappointing day at the Masters and comment to the press "I could care less about...[his finish]." Unless he was indicating that he could in fact care a little less about how he missed several eagle putts and failed in his attempt to reclaim the green jacket he won last year, what Tiger meant to say was that he was putting it all behind him, a.k.a.-"couldn't care less." At one point in life, I too made the common faux pas of saying the opposite of what I actually meant to say, but then someone opened my eyes to the light. Now I serve as a beacon to those less-informed, trying feverishly not to sound like a rabid grammarian set on saving the world through proper english.
If I was there interviewing Tiger at the Masters, pen in hand, it would have been excruciatingly hard for me not to interrupt golf's greatest player to say, "Uh, couldn't care less...that's what you meant to say, right Tiger?"
