I've experienced a fairly discontenting night this evening. Call it God. Call it spiritual warfare. All I know is that I haven't been the happiest person tonight. So, I've decided to focus on the positive. I drove out to the Tennessee River this evening, backed my truck up to the water's edge, put down the tailgate and sat and listened for a good while. Here's what I came up with.

Top 10 things I'm thankful for on the night of June 3, 2004 around 10 p.m.

10. Memories revealing my own fragility and God's grace being greater than any thought crawling out of the past

9. Lightning bugs serving as my prime source of light

8. The way the water stands as smooth as glass under the moonlight

7. The rippling indentations left on the water seconds later by a playful fish

6. TVA (without it, the state of Tennessee would have one natural lake)

5. The orchestra of crickets and frogs from a nearby catfish pond

4. A good chill running down my spine from an unusually cool summer night

3. The way God takes "darkness" and gives it character and personality in calling it "night"

2.Moments of silence that speaker louder than words

1. Loneliness that, though frustratingly suffocating, draws me closer to whom I am to be
